Amin draws for world peace
01/05/2004
A thousand mile journey begins with a single step, goes the
saying. In the case of artist S. Amin Shahab, his journey began with a
single stroke of his pen yesterday.
Amin wants to deliver a message for world peace by drawing marine life
on a one-kilometre stretch of canvas with his pen.
He believes that marine life symbolises peace and harmony, qualities
that are lacking in today's world.
The 54-year-old intends to complete his drawing in six months' time and
he hopes to receive support from sponsors.
The multi-talented Amin is a movie director (he directed Amok), singer,
painter and also an art activist.
At Balai Berita yesterday, Amin was awarded a certificate to verify his entry into the Malaysia Book of Records by its senior editor, Kumar
Sivagurunathan.
Also present at the launch of the `longest pen drawing' was the director
of Pentas Ronggeng, Mokhtar Abu Bakar.
"Amin has the ability to sketch without having any pre-conceived image
in mind," said Mokhtar.
Kumar said: The Malaysia Book Of Records will certify Amin's efforts as
the painter who draws the longest painting using a ball point pen if he
completes it successfully."
