Shedding 'Light' on Islamic culture
By Sharifah Arfah
Oct 12:
IN conjunction with Ramadan, Concorde Hotel Shah Alam has assembled an exhibition at The Artists' Space by 12 artists who are displaying pieces related to Islamic culture and civilisation.
Based on the theme "Light", more than 60 paintings - from watercolour to oil - are on display.
They are priced from RM500 to RM6,000.
The participating artists are Hadi Salleh, Azman Hilmi, Anuar Dan, Rashid Yusof, Zarina Abdullah, Rahim Jabbar, Sulaiman Mat Noh, Zafaruddin Zainuddin, Maimun Mohd Adam and Zafar Aliff Zafaruddin.
Hadi's paintings seek to convey the meaning of God in the context of art.
With vibrant colours, his works are sought-after by art lovers.
Maimun exhibits her style called "Batik".
The linear calligraphy flows freely and it carries meanings like "Ya Latiff" (the name of God - the fine and soft character), "Ya Hayyun" (the ever-loving God) plus many other phrases and words that can be found in the Quran.
Zafarudin's paintings adopt an abstract expressionist approach. The brush strokes add beauty and depth.
This exhibition ends on Nov 30. Viewing hours: 11am-11pm (Mondays-Saturdays) and 11am-7pm (Sundays). Admission is free.
