Oct 31:
TANG King Huat, 56, has been taking pictures for the past 42 years.
He owns four analogue cameras, among them, a 1966 Yashica-D model, a gift from his mother.
The camera, which uses a flash bulb to provide lighting where necessary and a new bulb for each shot, is one of Tang’s priceless possessions.
The springs and wires in the camera, which uses 120mm film, are well-maintained.
Tang, who is the Photographic Society of Johor president, plans to buy a digital camera soon to keep up with the times.
He owns a photo studio in Taman Pelangi and shoots an array of portraits. In his spare time, he loves to capture landscapes and scenery.
His winning shot of a cascading waterfall bears testimony to his talent when it won him the top prize in an international photo contest in Brunei in 1963.
Tang has also garnered countless awards and trophies over the years.
His passion for photography started when he bought his first box camera priced at RM2 which uses 127mm film.
"My mother saw how much I love to take pictures and she bought me the Yashica-D," he said.
At 14, Tang took part in his first international photo contest and clinched a gold medal in the student category.
The Photographic Society of Johor has 500 members.
