DEC 8:
PENANG artist Eric Yeoh Kok Ming has blended the spirit of Christmas into 12 specially-designed cards that showcase prominent scenes of the "Pearl of the Orient".
His masterpieces depict the fun and humorous sights of Santa Claus and his reindeer visiting selected famous landmarks in the State. "At RM15 per pack, my personal favourite is the City Hall backdrop at the Esplanade," said Yeoh, 29, recently.
Among the sights highlighted are the Victoria Memorial Clock Tower, St George’s Church, Fort Cornwalis, Penang Hill Funicular Railway, trishaw ride and the Penang Bridge.
Being an active member of the Penang Heritage Trust (PHT) and the Penang Players Music & Drama Society, Yeoh started the drawings in February this year and presented two samples to PHT for endorsement in July.
"I was overwhelmed by the keen interest expressed by PHT chairman Dr Choong Sim Poey, so I decided to proceed with another 10 new designs.
"This project is entirely self-funded and a portion of proceeds from the card sales will be donated to PHT," he said.
With the publicity given by PHT, about 2,000 packs of cards were printed in September.
Using a mixture of ink and colour pencils, the cards are intended to spread the charm of the island to locals as well as expatriates residing here.
"The main objective of my project is to promote the conservation of Penang’s heritage and to foster cultural education on the island’s rich history," Yeoh said.
