Styles of artistic expressions

Jan 4:
CATCH a group art exhibition featuring the works of 16 local artists at Metro Fine Art, Legend Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.
Featuring varied art styles and themes, from contemporary to abstract expressionism, this is an exhibition not to be missed.
The featured artists are Cheong Pooi Yip, Ismail Mat Hussin, Low Ek Sem, Low Seok Loo, Yeoh Seak Ling, Yuen Chee Ling, Yusof Gajah, Syed Thajudeen, Jaafar Taib, Lim Ah Cheng, Lee Weng Fatt, Raphael Scott, Johan Marjonid, Tan Hong Lee, Eston Tan and Edwin Ho.
Among the works on display are Cheong’s Lady, an acrylic work on canvas. The vibrancy of the work is illustrated through the texture of the painting and the solid expression of the subject.
Syed Thajudeen, known for his romantic themes, continues to explore the theme of love with one of his oil paintings on canvas entitled The Kiss. On the surface, the work represents the poetic union of love between a man and a woman.
The underlying themes, however, reflect the celebration of being human.
The grandeur of rich cultural heritage is Lee’s specialty, as depicted in oil painting Old Shop I. Capturing the old crevices and the activities in the shophouse, Lee’s work expresses the link to the history of the place.
Among the featured works at the exhibition, the most whimsical belongs to Yusof.
His creation of bright and rich scenes bridges the gap between adult reality and children’s fantasy. This is captured in the Many Elephant Series, showing repetitive and colourful odd-shaped elephants in rows.
Apart from celebrating the country’s established and new artists, the exhibition is held in conjunction with Metro Fine Art’s ninth anniversary.
Proprietor Kim Koh said that the exhibition is also held to thank the gallery’s supportive friends, patrons and collectors.
The exhibition is on till Jan 19. Viewing hours: 11am-5.30pm (Monday-Friday) and 11.30am-3.30pm (Sunday).
Free admission. Call 03-4042-2224/03-7803-8399.
