GALERI Tangsi in Jalan Tangsi, Kuala Lumpur presents “Growing Desires, A Scientia Of Art”, which showcases the works of artist Raduan Man.
Pahang-born Raduan’s latest works has been described by the gallery’s curator June Baharuddin as “one where the artist single-handedly produces masterpieces aimed at shaping society with a greater understanding of the human soul.”
Raduan, 28, believes in having culture and art understood as a tradition of fine taste and elegance shared by all nations and peoples.
He said: “My works challenge young artists to enter a new zone of understanding of artistic knowledge and experience.
“The aim is to provoke and stimulate the minds of viewers.”
He said the theme of the exhibition Scientia Potentia Est means Knowledge Is Power in Latin.
“The message is universal. That art does not divide people. Instead, it unites them,” he said.
Raduan also said that the exhibition reminds viewers that life and culture is inter-related.
“It highlights the message that humankind is one, and that everybody is equal before the creator of the universe,” he said.
Raduan studied art and design at Universiti Teknologi Mara in Shah Alam, and also fine art at Wolverhampton University, Britain.
“I have always been fascinated by wayang kulit and wood carving, and thus, these arts feature prominently in my exhibition.
“My works illustrate my journey as an artist and also explain my world view,” he said.
Raduan’s works also illustrate his fascination with mythical creatures such as dragons. “They also represent aspects of the human soul,” he said.
Raduan makes use of symbols to illustrate the growth of the human soul, be it in the form of a Jurassic fish or a cloned lamb.
