Oct 31:
VETERAN Penang artist Chong Chin Seng, 70, (pic) had the honour of exhibiting 57 of his paintings themed "One Man Art Exhibition" at the Kolej Damansara Utama gallery in Penang recently.
Chong had his art training at Teacher’s College in Kirkby, England in 1959, and his earliest painting on oil pastel is titled An Informal Dance Scene.
Chong repeated that art piece on a larger print to create a more nostalgic impression of those memorable days.
"I started with impressions before moving on to abstract oils, printmaking and expression to reflect my ideas and philosophy of everyday life," he said.
Many of Chong’s paintings depict the trials, tribulations and life’s routines.
A consultant with KDU College since 2003, Chong helped set up the School of Art and Design in 2005.
There are now 30 students taking diploma courses in digital art and design, graphic design and interior design.
He is also a part-time lecturer teaching food carving and sculpture to students of KDU’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management.
Chong has participated in numerous exhibitions including the Lung Yen Hokkien Province Exhibition in China in 1998 and the The Pioneering Spirit in Kuala Lumpur in 1997.
KDU principal Dr Tan Toh Hwa delivered the opening speech at the launch of the exhibition and he was followed by an address from group managing director and group CEO of Paramount Corporation Berhad Datuk Teo Chong Quan.
