Johan’s tropical rainforest collection

Nature lovers would appreciate Johan Marjonid’s tropical rainforest collection at his solo art exhibition which began yesterday at New Straits Times’ Balai Berita lobby.
On display until Dec 30 are 26 artworks inspired by Johan’s childhood in Kampung Jelutung in Ayer Baloi near Pontian, Johor, where he was born on Nov 9, 1968.
Johan said his father took him on jungle explorations and that instilled in him a love for nature.
After he graduated from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in 1991, Johan developed his own artistic style and chose to specialise in tropical rainfor ests.
His exhibition is themed ‘Melebu Alas’. ‘Melebu’ in Javanese means ‘enter, sit and watch’, while ‘alas’ means ‘forest’. In Malay, ‘alas’ means
