Nature’s his muse

Paul Toh
Mar 1:

WANG Pengcheng, 38, one of China’s foremost young artists, recently held a solo art exhibition featuring 50 paintings at Galeri Seri Mutiara, Armenian Street, Penang. His works feature meticulous Chinese brush painting of nature and birds.

Wang, born in Heilong Jiang, China, is a graduate of Beijing Teacher’s Training University and has been actively painting for the past 20 years.

He has also exhibited in China, Japan and Korea.

In 1995 and 2001, he was selected by the 1st China Calligraphy and Chinese Brush Painting fraternity to hold exhibitions of his artworks.

He is a recipient of numerous awards in China, having won the Gold Award for the Chinese Level Brush Painting Nomination Exhibition in 2002, China Calligraphy and Chinese Brush Painting Celebrity Exhibition in 2003, Contemporary Calligraphy Art Exhibition and China Young Artist Chinese Brush Painting Exhibition in 2004, among others.

Wang’s paintings feature contemporary ideas and innovations that bring life to his favourite subjects of birds and nature.

His use of the wet-on-wet technique conveys a sense of tranquillity inherent in the medium of brush and ink.

Wang conveys his philosophy of life through his individualistic style coupled with a keen sense of discovery. The gallery is open daily from 11am till 6pm.
