Malaysia in watercolour

Sharifah Arfah
Mar 13:

NN Gallery proudly presents the Malaysian Watercolour Organisation’s Annual Exhibition 2006 from Wednesday until April 7.

This exhibition by the Malaysian Watercolour Organisation (MWO) promises to be an exciting one.

Thirty-nine members will showcase more than 100 pieces of recent watercolour paintings.

The watercolourists include Dr Wong Seng Tong, Abdul Ghani Ahmad, Aminah Abdul Rahman, Chia Seng Chai, Sharifah Zuriah Aljeffri, Yeoh Kian Thai, Charles Mawan, Alex Ong Boon Hau and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Samsudin Osman, who is also MWO’s patron.

Their works will highlight some interesting facets of Malaysian life.

Buildings, rural life, street scenes, objects, landscapes, flora and fauna will be shown, the outcome of many painting excursions initiated by MWO members.

They include Warisan Terakhir by Md Sani Md Dom and Kampung Kepayang by Mansor Ghazalli.

The two works epitomise the romantic, idyllic and simple rural setting of Malay kampungs.

Koo Chiang Jin’s Clan Jetties, Penang shows a more urbanised version of wooden quarters, where television antennas and telephone lines are the order of the day.

Harvest Season # 3, a work by Yeoh Eng Peng, is a detailed study of the harvest season, with the wheelbarrow representing abundance and mobility.

Zuzila Zain’s Sunshine presents a view of the kampung in bright colours and strong lines.

NN Gallery is at 53A & 56, Jalan Sulaiman 1, Taman Ampang Hilir, Ampang, Selangor. Viewing hours: 9am-6pm (Monday-Saturday). Admission is free. Call 03-4270-6588.
