THE National Art Gallery is currently holding a Works on Paper exhibition, featuring 98 pieces of watercolour paintings done since the 1880s till today.
Launched on Tuesday by Tan Sri Samsudin Osman
(pix right), the Chief Secretary to the Government and himself an avid watercolourist (and patron of the Malaysian Watercolour Organisation), the exhibition showcases the works by 50 artists.
Among the oldest works on display are those by Frank Swettehnam entitled
Pahang River Near Pekan and George Giles -
Boatman on Pahang River which were done in the 1880s.
Works of early pioneers such as Yong Mun Sen, Ab Ibrahim, Abdullah Ariff, AJ Rahman are also on display.

Although most of the works featured revolved around scenery and social activities, there are some abstract and semi-abstract pieces such as those by Sia Boon Chuan and Alex Ong Boon Hau.

Other works included those by Tan Sri Samsudin, Chang Fee Ming, Maamor Jantan, Chow Chin Chuan, Rafie Abdul Rahman, Sani Md Dom, and Jolly Koh.
The exhibition ends on June 30.
The National Art Gallery is located at Jalan Temerloh, off Jalan Tun Razak. Opening hours are from 10am to 6pm daily. It is closed on Mondays.
