THE Artists’ Space in Concorde Hotel Shah Alam presents “Social Issues And Nature”, an art exhibition featuring the works of Rosniza Ahmad.
The 38-year-old Rosniza, better known as Niza, has been an artist for 20 years. His works are mostly on the environment.
The paintings, a combination of technique and arrangement on canvas, appear like three-dimensional pictures. These include Di Pesona Awan Senja and Nun Jauh Di Timur which depict fishermen and their boats.
The pieces not only convey the beauty of the environment but also important social messages.
For example, Kenangan 1,000 Musim shows an old man with a lonely face. His physique shows his frailty while the greenish background reflects his solemn emotions.
The message behind the painting is separation and loneliness. The man can be seen as a senior citizen who longs to be reunited with his loved ones. The painting educates viewers on their duty to love and care for their elders.
Niza is a firm believer in educating the public via art. He believes artists should produce social statements on a wide variety of issues — from the need to protect the environment to the importance of caring for the old, poor and destitute.
His works are featured alongside those of two other artists, Mohamad Fadli Yusoff and Ali Akbar Osman.
Mohamad Fadli exhibits his Balinese Garden series, which makes use of the “light and shadow” technique to interpret form and space.

Ali Akbar is showcasing his Belantara series which are abstract paintings based on spontaneous brush strokes. A student of artist Yusof Ghani, Ali obtained inspiration for his works while travelling overseas.
The Belantara series is his statement on the need to preserve the country’s rainforests from excessive logging and destruction.
