Bikers on a mission through Johor

THE Johor Bikers' Association organised a Travel Johor Expedition recently in conjunction with the 51st Merdeka Day celebrations.

About 120 members took part in the two-day expedition, which covered a distance of 1,000km.

The flag-off point was the Youth and Sports Complex at Larkin in Johor Baru.

Association chairman Abdul Rahim Ahmad said on the first day of the expedition, the convoy travelled through Pontian, Batu Pahat and Segamat.

On the following day, it went to Muar, Kluang, Kota Tinggi before finishing at Johor Baru.

The association's members travelled on high capacity bikes and carried the Jalur Gemilang to encourage the public to display the national flag outside their homes or on vehicles to show their love for the country.

"At each place the convoy stopped, the members gave out miniatures of the national flag to the people and sang patriotic songs like Jalur Gemilang and Kerana Mu Malaysia.

"It was a convoy with a mission. Members made a donation to the heads of four poor families, some of whom were single mothers."

Abdul Rahim said that at each place where the convoy stopped, the association requested an autograph from the district youth officer or district officer to commemorate their visit.

He said these would be presented to Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman during the National Day celebration in Mersing on Aug 31.

Government officer Nurul Aswaniee Kamarul Bahrin, 31, who was the only female participant in the convoy, felt similar expeditions should be organised annually to promote patriotism.
