Painting is a time-tested favourite to give the humblest abode or the grandest palace a new and festive feeling.

Apart from colours, many things need to be considered when making a purchase of paint — the type of paint (internal or external), the object to be painted (wood or masonry) and more.

Thus, it would be important to get professional advice when buying paint.

There is one such shop in Kampung Melayu Majidee in Johor Baru that gives excellent advice not only on the choice of colours, but also on the technical intricacies involved in getting the best paint job for your house.

Manager and co-owner of Seri Kilat Jaya Sdn Bhd Mohd Zamri Mohd Salleh, 37, said they had been dealing with and selling paints since 1986.

“We want this to be a one-stop station for everything that is related to painting.”

He said the shop managed to retain its customers because of the help rendered, especially involving technical skills.

“Painting a house could be an art as there are many things that would affect the outcome of the paint job, from the unpredictable weather to the viscosity of the paint that is applied to the surface,” he said.

On the colours, he said the customers’ sophisticated choice and the advancement of technology would soon make product catalogues a thing of the past.

“Even now, customers come to our shop and choose their desired colour on a computer screen. Their orders would be mixed on site by our colour-mixing machine within minutes.”

Custom colours are definitely the in-thing now, as customers like to mix base colours to arrive at a desired one that they could call their own.

“It is like you are at the paint factory itself because there is no limit to the choice of colours.”

Seri Kilat is open from 8am to 5pm, seven days a week during the fasting month.
