Debate on abolishing death sentence

AMNESTY International Malaysia is holding a debate on the topic “Should Malaysia abolish the death penalty?” on Sept 12.

Two teams consisting of three members each from the law faculties of ATC College and HELP University College will be taking part. The event will be held at ATC, Bangunan Tunas Utama, Petaling Street, Kuala Lumpur at 2pm on Sept 12.

“The debate is being held to inform the public about the global moratorium on the death penalty which was passed by the United Nations general assembly on Dec 16, last year, “ said Amnesty International Malaysia campaign coordinator K. Shan.

The debate will be judged by Datuk Denison Jayasooria, who is a member of Amnesty International Malaysia and an advocate and solicitor.

The event is being held in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
