Hand-made designs that come from the heart

LIKE all handmade things, Suzanne Wong's T-shirts, jewellery and bags are created with love.

She may take less than three minutes to make a simple pair of earrings and less than 10 to design a hip new T-shirt, but Wong clearly loves what she does.

Her shop, Avenue 21, has been around for more than 12 years, but Wong has only been selling her handmade treasures for three years.

She makes all jewellery on her own, using pearls and stones such as agate, turquoise and aventurine.

Among the crystals used are quartz and amethyst.

When asked how she came up with such nifty designs, Wong said she just made things which she liked.

"I'm happy that my customers like what I like too."

Some customers have also brought their own crystals and beads for her to use in creating what they want.

"I'll gladly make jewellery for them, even if they show me a design in a magazine."

Prices of her jewellery start at RM19.90, with the most expensive item -- a pearl necklace -- costing RM388.

Her T-shirts, with cute hand-drawn doodles on them, retail at RM49.90 for adults and RM29.90 for children.

There are also "couple T-shirts" -- identical tees for couples, one sized slightly larger than the other.

The popular couple T-shirts are priced at RM89.90 per pair.

"I buy plain black and white T-shirts and simply draw what I like.

"Sometimes the customers have special requests for certain designs, which I also draw," said Wong.

If you are also looking for something to carry your things in, check out Wong's range of bags.

Made of denim, her bags are eye-catching and trendy.

"Once I've decided on a design, a bag takes less than an hour to make.

"Some people have even given me their old denim skirts and jeans to turn into bags.

"This adds a personal touch to the bag, which the owner would be very proud to show off."

For handmade items with a personal touch, head to Avenue 21 at Level 3, Plaza Pelangi, Johor Baru.
