Stray dogs disrupt peace in neighbourhood

RESIDENTS in Kampung Parit Setongkat in Jalan Salleh, Muar are uneasy with the presence of six stray dogs in their neighbourhood.

They claim the dogs have been disturbing the peace at night for the past few months.

The dogs, they said, had also been rummaging through garbage bins, scattering rubbish all over the place.

Residents said the dogs also chased after pedestrians and schoolchildren who rode to school.

Faez Shahrudin, 28, said he had seen five to six stray dogs in the neighbourhood during the day and night.

He added that women and children feared the canines and their incessant barking.

"I do not know if they are strays or abandoned dogs. They are always prowling the neighbourhood. They also bark loudly at night.

"Most of them rummaged through garbage bins in search of leftover food, and this has dirtied our streets."

He urged the local authorities to take action against the stray dogs because their presence had caused uneasiness among residents.

Ismail Abd Samad, 72, said one of the dogs had chased after him while he was riding his motorcycle to a shop.

Although he escaped unhurt, he feared that motorists might soon fall victim to accidents due to the dogs.

"We are living in fear because the dogs may bite children or pedestrians.

"Alhough nobody has been bitten by the animals, we hope the authorities would do something about them."
