'Informed' voters impress Zaliha

INTELLIGENT and well-informed.

DR ZALIHA MUSTAFA: PKR’s candidate for Gelang Patah’s parliamentary seat
DR ZALIHA MUSTAFA: PKR’s candidate for Gelang Patah’s parliamentary seat

That is how voters in the parliamentary constituency of Gelang Patah come across to Parti Keadilan Rakyat candidate Dr Zaliha Mustafa.

Contesting the seat for the first time, Dr Zaliha has been busy canvassing for votes and what she has seen has left her in no doubt that the electorate there are analytical when it comes to deciding how to cast their votes.

The 44-year-old stood for the Tanjong Puteri state seat in 2004 and lost to Barisan National's Ali Mohamed by a majority of 19,676.

She is more optimistic this time against Tan Ah Eng, of BN, and she attributes this to what she has seen on the ground.

"I am well received everywhere I go. Even in areas where BN is very strongly supported, people want to hear what I have to say.

"They want to know both sides of the story. Even strong BN supporters will listen to me ... they strike me as being well-informed.

"Of course, there are the older makcik and pakcik who don't want to listen, but for the most part, I have seen that the majority of people here want to know what both candidates have to say," said Dr Zaliha at her operations centre in Kangkar Pulai.

The mother of four, who has a private practice in Kulai together with her husband Dr Ahmad Adzlan Musa, has been involved in PKR since its formation. She is currently PKR Wanita vice chief and Johor Wanita chief. -- Leslie Andres
