BADAN Warisan Malaysia in Jalan Stonor, Kuala Lumpur, is currently hosting “Khazanah Brickfields”, a heritage education programme-cum-exhibition that highlights the rich history of Brickfields that surrounds Jalan Tun Sambanthan and the KL Sentral complex.

“Khazanah Brickfields” contains a selection of works from the recently-concluded Digi Amazing Malaysians programme which highlights initiatives of groups and individuals to preserve the heritage of Kuala Lumpur’s various commercial districts.

The exhibition is a “record” of the story of Brickfields, its heritage buildings and the people who live and work here, past and present.

Visitors have the opportunity to view a video entitled Ranjau Kehidupan, browse through three heritage issues in the section called Brickfields Kita and view a variety of artistic renditions of the area.

The journey of discovery involved over 60 young people between the ages of 10 and 16 from schools in the area, namely, Sekolah Kebangsaan (Perempuan) Methodist 1, Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) St Theresa, Sekolah Kebangsaan La Salle Brickfields (2), Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Vivekananda and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sri Pantai.
The exhibition which began on July 10 and ends Aug 29 is aimed at creating a life-long bond between the children and the community. It took over 120 hours of preparations between February and May.

The Digi Amazing Malaysian programme is aimed at instilling the belief that to preserve tradition, it is necessary to preserve the ability of people to practise it.

It has identified five broad areas of heritage to focus on, namely, nature, culture, art, building and social heritage.

The exhibition opens from Mondays to Saturdays. Visiting hours are from 10am to 5.30pm. Call 03-21449273.
