VISITORS to Lido Beach had a shock when a three-metre-long crocodile was seen lurking on the surface of the Tebrau Straits, near the river mouth of Sungai Chat, for almost two hours last week.
The sighting, about 3pm during low tide, has been attracting onlookers.
Although traffic on the Lido Beach road is busy, it has not stopped people from flocking to the area. Some have even managed to capture the crocodile on camera.
A Johor Baru City Council worker, Azmi Mohd Sofian, said he was shocked to see the reptile, which he initially thought was a monitor lizard at the river mouth.
Azmi and his friends were patrolling near the floodgates control room in the area when they noticed an "object" floating near the river mouth.
"We only realised what it was when it came up to the edge. We then informed the Wildlife and National Parks Department."
Department director, Abdul Razak Majid said crocodile sightings in the area were not unusual.
"But we will look into the matter," he added.
