Its secretary, Datuk Kamaruzaman Mohd Noor, said the EC received Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail’s letter of resignation as Member of Parliament for the constituency at noon today.
“We also received a letter from the Dewan Rakyat Speaker by fax at noon and by hand at 2.30pm informing us on the Permatang Pauh seat being left vacant now following the resignation.
“Therefore, the EC will meet on Aug 6 to decide on five matters, including the nomination and by-election dates for the Permatang Pauh seat,” he told Bernama here today.
Yesterday, Dr Wan Azizah, the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president, resigned as Permatang Pauh MP with immediate effect to make way for her husband Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the PKR advisor, to contest in a by-election for the seat.
Dr Wan Azizah disclosed that she had given her resignation letter to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia yesterday.
Kamaruzaman said the EC meeting on Wednesday would also decide on the date to issue the election writ, the date of notice and the electoral roll to be used for the by-election.
