KUALA LUMPUR: The United States embassy here has expressed hope the rule of law will be applied fairly and transparently in the process of prosecuting Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In a statement yesterday, the embassy said that transparent and impartial application of the law in this case was critical to continued confidence in Malaysia's democratic institutions, particularly its legal and judicial systems.

"The United States is paying close attention to the situation as are many other friends of Malaysia," it said. -- Bernama
