KUALA LUMPUR: A 20-metre high retaining wall collapsed yesterday evening, damaging 11 cars and causing a massive jam in Damansara Heights here.

The wall, located between the CIMB Commerce Square and CIMB Amanah buildings in Jalan Semantan, went down at 5pm after heavy rain. There were no injuries reported.

Mud and rubble came down on an open-air parking lot between the two buildings.

There was a massive jam when police cordoned off parts of the road for the clean-up operation.

Around 300 CIMB employees were evacuated from the buildings and are expected to return to work only after the authorities have given the green light.



Forty-seven Fire and Rescue Department personnel were despatched to the scene in three fire engines.

The landslide was being investigated by the Public Works Department, Kuala Lumpur City Hall and Malaysian Public Works Institute.

Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Zulhasnan Rafique, who visited the site, said: "The drain at the top of the retaining wall could have overflowed, causing the landslide."

CIMB group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Nazir Razak said the evacuation was a precaution and would not effect the bank's daily operations.

"Our operations will continue. We have a contingency plan and there will not be any disruption to our services."
