KANGAR: A RM1.39 million who-dun-nit, in what could be the strangest circumstances for a heist in local history, has been keeping police busy since Friday.

Four security guards said the money disappeared in the five-minute drive between the security company's office in Taman Sena Indah and an automated teller machine (ATM) in the heart of town.

They told police that they only realised the money was missing when they were about to unload the cash into the ATM.

Police remanded them and two other guards from the company for a week soon after the report.

Perlis police chief Datuk Ghazali Mohd Amin said the six were aged between 20 and 40 and comprised "old and new guards".
The guards had telephoned a company official about 9.40am that day to report the incident.

The company later lodged a report at the district police station.

Police declined to state whether the guards made any stops while transporting the money.

They are being investigated for criminal breach of trust under the Penal Code.

Those convicted face up to 20 years in jail and whipping, and are liable to a fine.
