KANGAR: A father and son were charged with murder yesterday in an alleged "mob attack" on a Kuala Perlis labourer earlier this month.
Zakeria Din, 49, and his son Mohd Noorhafis Zakeria, 22, were charged at the magistrate's court yesterday with murdering Hatib Leman, 35, by kicking and beating him outside house number 29 in Kampung Perak, Kuala Perlis, at 10.15pm on May 3.
Zakeria, who was dressed in a white printed polo shirt and grey slacks, and Mohd Noorhafis in red T-shirt and black slacks, nodded their heads after the charges were read to them before magistrate Mohd Azhar Hashim.
No plea was recorded. They were unrepresented.
Deputy public prosecutor Aslam Zainuddin prosecuted.
Mohd Azhar fixed June 16 for mention.
Zakeria, who is also from Kampung Perak in Kuala Perlis, works as a contractor. Mohd Noorhafis, who is the eldest of five siblings, sells stingray skins in Kuala Perlis.
Outside the courtroom, several family members were seen waiting for the proceedings.
It was reported that on May 3 Hatib was attacked by an angry mob of about 20 men outside his home. Police had had alleged that the attackers had accused him of breaking into a neighbour's house to peep at a 12-year-old girl.
