MUAR: About 100 students at the National Youth Skill Training Institute in Pagoh were down with food poisoning yesterday morning.

The students, including 24 girls, had complained of stomach pain at 3am yesterday.

Dr Aizam Huzair Fadzillah and several nurses from the Muar Health Department treated the affected students at the institute.

Dr Aizam Huzair said the situation was not serious and was under control, adding that the students had been told to rest in their hostels.

"It was a mild attack of food poisoning," he said, adding that there was no complaint of vomiting or other medical problems.
Institute assistant director (management and human development) Gan Keem Haak said the source of the food poisoning was being investigated.

The students had said that they ate noodles, nasi lemak, chicken curry and a variety of vegetables at the canteen for supper. The institute's canteen remained open yesterday.

Gan said this was the first incident at the institute since it started operations in 2003.
