A VCD allegedly depicting armed forces trainee commandos being stomped and stepped on as well as being beaten up has prompted Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) to call for an investigation.

Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (PKR-Machang) said the two-minute VCD depicting the inhumane treatment of the commando recruits was passed to him last week and believes the scene is part of a training module for the trainees.

"A note with the VCD said it was a basic commando training exercise," he told reporters at Parliament lobby.

The VCD which was played for the media in Parliament showed unidentified men in dark green armed forces outfit stomping on commando recruits including on their heads, while they were lying on their stomachs shouting and screaming.

Saifuddin said he had verified the contents of the VCD with former armed forces commandos, who told him that based on the uniform worn by the trainers and the location of the training exercise in an oil palm plantation that the incident occurred in the country.

Saifuddin once served as the political secretary to the defence minister between 1994 and 1996 when he was in Umno.

Saifuddin said he believes this was an isolated incident and did not reflect on the armed forces in general.

Saifuddin wants the Defence Ministry to investigate the matter and verify if such a training module was used.
