PKR wants Musa, Gani suspended

PUTRAJAYA: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) yesterday urged the prime minister to suspend Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan and Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail pending investigations into allegations of abuse of power.

"We have reason to believe that if they are not suspended, the investigation will be biased and unprofessional," said PKR Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin.

He was speaking after submitting a letter to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi at his office here. The letter was received by Abdullah's senior political secretary, Datuk Ahmad Yaakob.

Musa and Abdul Gani have been accused of abusing their power by de facto PKR leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Anti-Corruption Agency has started investigations into Anwar's report. The investigation is led by its investigation director, Datuk Shukri Abdul.
Shamsul said the government should form an independent commission to investigate Anwar's report.

It also urged the government to prosecute former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for "allowing the police and the attorney-general to act cruelly by denying Anwar's rights when he was detained in 1998".

It also demanded that the government make an open apology to Anwar.

Shamsul said PKR would hold a rally in Kampung Baru after Friday prayers today.

He added similar rallies would be held in several places as a show of support for Anwar.
