KUALA LUMPUR: The Works Ministry is in the final process of updating data on the overall study of the terms of the existing agreements with toll concession companies aimed at reducing the toll rates throughout the country.

"We are in the final stage of updating the data and we have made several options as well as a new traffic projection based on the capacity of the existing infrastructure.

"We also studied the implications if we were to reduce the toll -- the financial burden borne by the concession companies today and in the future," said its minister, Datuk Mohd Zin Mohamed, in the interview 60 Minutes With the Minister aired by RTM1 here on Wednesday night.

He said the ministry had set up a special committee on the Toll Rate Study, headed by the chairman of the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA), and invited academicians, consultants and private firms to study and reevaluate the existing terms.

He said he would present the outcome of the study to the cabinet soon for a final decision.
Mohd Zin said the study encompassed traffic data on each highway and how the toll collection was utilised by the concession companies concerned. -- Bernama
