KUALA LUMPUR: A lorry attendant who had been brutally attacked, along with members of his family, by four men on Wednesday, succumbed to his injuries yesterday.
M. Mahendran, 25, died at Universiti Kebangsaan Malay-sia Hospital (HUKM) about 4am yesterday from serious injuries to his head and chest.
He had been rushed there after being slashed about 4.30pm on Wednesday by four men with parang at his home in Flat Seri Johor in Cheras here.
The men then abducted his 46-year-old mother and 8-year-old niece, who had witnessed the attack. The two were taken on a terror ride before being dropped off at two different locations. They were later found and reunited at the Pudu police station.
Two hours after that incident, the same four men tracked down and followed Mahendran's uncle, R. Govindran, who was on a motorcycle on his way to Pudu station.
A policeman, who was on his way to the police station at the time, witnessed Govindran being attacked and warned the men to stop the attack.
When they did not heed his warnings, he was forced to open fire. One of the suspects, who was hit in the leg, was captured, while the other three fled.
Govindran, also a lorry driver, died on the spot from severe injuries to his head.
