IPOH: A district police chief and two of his officers are under investigation by the state Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA), on allegations of making false monetary claims for a community programme which never took place.
ACA sources told the New Straits Times here yesterday that the police chief, his deputy and a chief inspector had allegedly made false claims for RM10,000 as expenses for organising a "Police With The Community" programme in their area of jurisdiction.
However, a third party involved in the organising of the event later lodged a complaint with the ACA that the programme was in fact, never carried out.
Sources said the complainant was instructed by the suspects to put in a false claim prepared by them.
The police chief with the rank of assistant commissioner, his deputy who is a superintendent and the chief inspector are also being investigated for accepting RM10,000 from the state police headquarters in the form of a grant to organise the event.
Sources also said that the grant was given out to every police district in the state to hold police-community programmes to enhance police rapport with society.
"However, the money received by the district police officers was never spent for the programme although they claimed that they had organised the event."
All three officers had given their statements to the ACA on or after Aug 22. No remand orders were obtained by the ACA.
In the meantime, the police have launched their own investigation into the matter.
Perak police chief Datuk Zulkifli Abdullah, when met here yesterday morning, said the investigation was started immediately after the ACA had finished interrogating the officers recently.
He refused to comment on the details of the alleged corruption, adding however that the three officers were still reporting for duty.
