ROGER Federer is coming again and if Rafael Nadal puts pen to paper, Malaysians will get a chance to see the two going head to head at Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Nov 18.
Completing the cast of the "Four champions, two Eras, one night in Kuala Lumpur" will be former greats Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe.
Should Nadal, who could be the World No 1 by that time, not be able to commit, the organisers have lined up American James Blake as Federer's rival.
Patron Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, who launched the event in Kuala Lumpur yesterday said charitable causes will also stand to gain.
"Fans can bid online (www.showdownkl2008.com) for a host of signed player items and experiences, such as the on-court coin toss with the players," said Rosma.
"Among the charities are the Roger Federer Foundation, John McEnroe Charity, Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation National Centre and the Malaysian Children Hope Foundation."
The format will see one set between Borg and McEnroe followed by another set between Federer and either Nadal or Blake.
It will be followed with a one-set doubles between Federer-Borg against McEnroe-Nadal/Blake.
Nadal or Blake's participation in the event will hinge on the outcome of the Davis Cup semi-final between Spain and the United States in Madrid on Sept 21.
The event is organised by LD Sports Sdn Bhd and IMG and supported by the Tourism Ministry and the Lawn Tennis Association of Malaysia (LTAM)
