THE Petronas Performing Arts Group (PPAG) continues to make its mark by presenting yet another astounding performance titled Titian Zaman at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP) tomorrow and Wednesday.

Titian Zaman is the second presentation by the PPAG for the year after the successful dance drama Raja Bersiong in January. PPAG’s performances are part of Petronas’ efforts to preserve traditional Malay arts and culture.

In previous years, the PPAG has staged dance dramas and traditional musicals such as Mek Mulung, Kalbu and Simfoni Tradisional.

Titian Zaman
contains two performance segments. The first is a dance drama titled Semerah Padi while the second is a dance potpourri titled Laman Kreasi.

Producer Hartini Abdullah said the PPAG is providing “a variety of traditional offerings for the audience in a single show”.
Semerah Padi is based on the famous Tan Sri P. Ramlee film which made its debut in 1956 and starred Ramlee and Datin Saadiah Baharom.

A love story which also tackles adultery, crime and punishment, it revolves around childhood friends Aduka and Teruna who are in love with the same woman, Dara.

The dance drama is directed by Roslee Mansor with choreography by A. Sam Palal and music direction by Mohd Yazid Zakaria.

Roslee said: “Semerah Padi makes a good dance drama as its setting is traditional and its storyline is timeless. While it remains true to the film, some scenes from the original are omitted from the dance drama.”

He said the dialogue among the actors who include Yuzaidi Yusof, Dino Latip and Feeza Hamid, is minimal and they use facial expressions and body movements to “speak” to the audience.

Laman Kreasi presents eight newly-choreographed dances, namely Tari Puteri Asyik, Tari Seri Inai, Tari Lilin Ceracap, Zapin Tangkas Beralun, Tari Seri Damak, Silat Tari Piring, Sowodatip and Sakti.

They are choreographed by Shalinda Ismail, Zaizul Adli Mamat, Raziff Abdul Rahman, Roslina Mohd Idrus, Jefri Mokhtar, Rozilah Abdul Rahman, Andrean Juselly and Alia Nadira Ahmad Zubir, respectively.

The music composers for the dances are Mohd Khairul Anuar Ramly, Syed Shahrir Faisal Syed Hussein, Mohd Husin Osman, Abdul Rohni Mat Noor, Abdullah Omar Abdul Wahid, Yuzaifullah Mohd Yusof, Noor Leyzam Ali and Yuzaifullah Mohd Yusof, respectively.

Tickets for the showcase are priced at RM35, RM30, RM20 and RM10. Time: 8.30pm. Venue: DFP in KLCC, Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur. Call 03-2051-7007.
