SAILOR Kevin Lim appears close to resolving his dispute with the Malaysian Yachting Association (MYA) over his participation in the Beijing Olympics.
Kevin, 32, walked away from a meeting with MYA officials in Batu Laut, near Banting, Selangor on Saturday pleased that he got his point across to the national governing body.
"The meeting with MYA was much more civilised than I had been preparing myself.
"I walked away feeling that I had a chance to explain my problems and gained a better understanding about the issues that MYA are facing.
"However, I shall wait to see the true outcome of the meeting in the weeks to follow," said Kevin, who is being forced by MYA to compete in a local trial despite making his own effort to qualify for the Olympics through the World Championships in Australia in February.
While MYA could be ready to reach a compromise on his case, Kevin fears that the association is making too little effort in giving other sailors in the country an opportunity to develop.
"Even though I've had a chance to air my problems, I believe many of the other sailors have issues they would like to have addressed too.
"Things like a fair and transparent ranking criteria, timely distribution of information and regatta schedules, and fair and honourable regatta management are some of the things that spring up to mind immediately.
"I sincerely hope that MYA address these issues for the sake of the sailors because MYA would be nothing without them."
