PETALING JAYA: The off-duty policeman who was injured in the shoot-out at the KLIA terminal is now under investigation.
State police chief Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said they wanted to ascertain if Lance Corporal Zainudin Mat Isa was "moonlighting" as an armed escort for the moneychangers.
"If investigations revealed that he was working for the moneychangers, then we want to know the role that he played," Khalid said.
Investigations are being supervised by the federal police's disciplinary unit.
Zainudin, 40, was in the centre of the shoot-out after he pulled out his semi-automatic pistol and fired several rounds.
He, however, was shot twice and while he feigned death, one of the gunmen grabbed his pistol. Earlier reports stated that Zainudin, attached to the Criminal Investigation Department of the Putrajaya police headquarters, was at the airport to meet a friend.
It is learnt that police have obtained closed-circuit television camera images of the robbery suspects when they passed through a toll plaza after the incident.
However, police are not only relying on those images. They have come out with photofits of the suspects based on witnesses' accounts.
Two of the gunmen were believed to be injured.
Police are on the lookout for those seeking medical treatment for gunshot wounds.
