KOTA KINABALU: Sabah's civil servants are qualified to take on senior positions at the federal level.
This is Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president Datuk Seri Joseph Pairin Kitingan's assertion in response to a statement by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan that such jobs were given based on merit and that there were not enough people from Sabah and Sarawak to fill such positions at federal level.
"I believe we have many qualified people. We will present this for discussion," Pairin said.
The need for senior positions for locals from Sabah was one of the issues that Sabah BN brought up with the prime minister in their meeting on Monday.
On talk Parti Keadilan Rakyat was still keen in getting MPs from Sabah to cross over with the promise that pressing matters would be solved by the "new government" once they have majority, Pairin said: "Voices and opinions don't just come from the opposition. The parties in BN also fight for the people."
"Don't forget that we have completed the election and governments have been formed. We must now allow the process of governance to take place."
