KOTA BARU: Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat has suggested that the Malay rulers explain what "ketuanan Melayu" or Malay supremacy means as certain quarters have become bold enough to questioned the rights involved.

"The rulers need to help correct whatever mistakes that have resulted in Malay rights being questioned now," he said at his weekly lecture here yesterday.

Nik Aziz said if the rulers chose to be silent on this issue, it will continue to be raised and questioned by others for their own ends.

The action by DAP chairman Karpal Singh to question the powers of the Perak Sultan over the reinstatement of the state Islamic Religious Department director has incurred the ire of Malays who regard it as challenging Malay sovereignty. - Bernama
