Khairy: Assess how effective live coverage is

SEREMBAN: The government should assess the effectiveness of the live coverage of parliamentary proceedings before deciding whether or not to continue with it, Barisan Nasional deputy youth chief, Khairy Jamaluddin, said yesterday.

He said based on the feedback, the government should decide to go live with the entire proceeding or stop the existing 30 minutes coverage.

He said the quality of the debates over the last two weeks was good and important issues had been raised.

"The thing is people are not interested in listening to long debates over policy or serious issues. People only want to listen or read about the proceedings when MPs engage in some argument or something else which catches their attention.

"Overall, the quality of the debates and points raised by both the government and opposition MPs this session have touched on many national issues," said Khairy who is also Rembau member of Parliament.
He said the media often reported arguments and other trivial matters because this was what the readers wanted to read.
