ALOR STAR: A 35-year-old trader is searching for his missing wife who might have been a victim of a scam.
Goh Shee Sheing claimed that his wife, Cheng Keai Fong, 33, who had been missing for 20 days, might have fallen for an online scam which offered her a job in New Zealand.
Goh said he only realised her disappearance after returning home from work on April 26.
"Nobody was home and my two children were in school.
"I thought she went out for a while but when I found that all her personal documents and clothes were gone, I knew something was wrong."
"The only thing that she left behind was her mobile phone," Goh said at a press conference held at the MCA service centre here yesterday.
Goh had also contacted his mother, Tan Ah Moi, 60, and his younger sister, Goh Shee Yin, 26, but was told his wife was not with them.
He said a neighbour told him that she saw Cheng in a car with a man that day.
"My wife did tell me about a job offer that she got from a friend whom she knew by chatting online.
"She told me that the man offered her a job in a hotel in New Zealand with a US$4,500 (RM14,400) salary."
Goh had asked Cheng to turn down the offer as he was worried that it was a scam.
Before she went missing, Cheng was working at a supermarket in town with a salary of RM500 per month.
Goh also said that he received his wife's cell phone bill a few days back and noticed 10 calls had been made to New Zealand.
Goh had also lodged a missing person's report.
Meanwhile, Alor Star MCA service centre supervisor, Loh Eng Chong, said he would seek help from the Immigration Department to locate Goh's wife.
