SHAH ALAM: Police shot dead a suspected member of a luxury car theft gang, wounded another and arrested a third after they and two others tried to rob a man of his multi-purpose vehicle on Thursday night.

However, their two accomplices managed to escape following the 10.15pm incident in Jalan Subang.

Their victim was injured when he was slashed by the men.

The deceased was identified as G. Somunaidu, of Teluk Intan, Perak.

His body was claimed by his parents from Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) in Klang yesterday and cremated in Teluk Intan last night.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Noor Azam Jamaluddin said the gang of five had tailed their victim, who was driving a Toyota Alphard MPV, and his son, in a Honda Civic before bumping into the rear of his vehicle.

When the man stopped his vehicle, four of the gang members, armed with parang, alighted from their vehicle.

"They pulled the victim out of his vehicle and slashed his hands.

"However, four plainclothes policemen, who happened to be in the area, saw what was happening and confronted the gang," said Noor Azam.

Seeing the policemen, one gang member ran back to the Civic where his accomplice was waiting behind the wheel, and the two sped off, leaving the three other gang members stranded.

The trio ran towards a nearby golf club.

Police fired several shots, killing one and hitting another in the thigh. The third man surrendered.

Noor Azam said both the victim and the wounded gang member were warded at HTAR.

He said investigations revealed that the Honda Civic was also stolen, two hours earlier in Sungai Way, Petaling Jaya.
