KUALA LUMPUR: Two babies in urgent need of heart surgery received RM4,000 yesterday from a compassionate New Straits Times reader.
Datuk Jason Goh Teck Chai was on a flight from Penang to here yesterday when he read about the babies' plight and their families' desperation.
"I was moved by the two cases, especially as they involved babies. They deserve every chance to lead a healthy life," said the chief executive officer of M. Zain group of companies.
The NST highlighted the cases of Chong Min Bin and Liyana Noor Shifa Ashari, who needed corrective heart surgery.
Liyana was scheduled to undergo an operation yesterday to correct her switched major heart vessels.
According to her parents, Ashari Kassan and Suraya Ahmad, Liyana was recuperating from the five-hour surgery at the intensive care unit of Gleneagles Intan Medical Centre, Ampang.
Chong, who was diagnosed with a problematic blood flow to his lungs, underwent corrective surgery on Wednesday.
