MTBC may seek arbitration over fine

THE Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) boycotted the Asian Bowling Federation (ABF) general assembly on Thursday, in which the new committee decided to award the RM50,000 fine imposed on MTBC to UAE bowler Syed Ibrahim for his perfect game in the 2006 Malaysia Open.

The ABF had warned MTBC prior to this year's Malaysia Open in March to either pay the hefty fine or not get the former's sanctioning for the event.

It is learnt that MTBC may take up the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The issue started when Ibrahim rolled a 300-game in the Malaysian event and instead of the RM50,000 cash award, he was awarded a Canon printer by MTBC.

MTBC's case is that the bowler did not protest within the 48-hour time frame after the perfect game, as stipulated in the rules.
Meanwhile, Kuwait's Sheikh Talal Al-Sabah retained the president's post unchallenged.

He will hold the post for four years.

Dr Danny Santos of the Philippines replaced MTBC secretary general Sidney Tung as vice-president as the latter decided to step down due to health reasons. -- AJITPAL SINGH
