WHO wouldn’t jump at the chance of having breakfast in bed?

The sheer thought of someone serving you a steaming hot mug of teh tarik and a yummy plate of nasi lemak under the covers is tempting. And of course, hotels know just how tempting that is.

Just when you think they couldn’t come up with enough ways to spoil us, the hotel industry has now introduced “sahur in bed".

For RM45, most hotels will bring sahur to your room. This is usually from a set menu, much like any other set meal. The menu changes daily.

Putrajaya Shangri-La’s director of sales and marketing, Beverly Lim, says the sahur packages are a big hit with Muslim guests.
“Instead of getting dressed so early in the morning, most of our Muslim guests rather call up the restaurant and place their sahur order.

“Of course, the choices available for sahur are not as wide as our breakfast buffet. But there are quite a number of things to choose from. And the meals are complete, from appetisers to dessert.”

Lim says most guests give their orders upon check-in, so they don’t have to call every day.

Cyberview Lodge Resort & Spa has a similar room package, with an invitation to non-Muslims.

If you have an early meeting the next morning, the “sahur in bed” option is the perfect answer.

“Our package is called ’Ramadan Delights’. Guests pay slightly below RM400 for a deluxe chalet, two sahur packages and two buka puasa meals at the Gardens restaurant.

“We have a wide variety to choose from, including seafood, chicken, vegetables, condiments, soup and dates,” said its food & beverage manager, Marran Arumugam.

He said most people who choose this option call between 4.30am and 5.30am.

Hotel Nikko doesn’t have a room package that includes “sahur in bed", but their guests aren’t deprived of this luxury.

Guests can choose from a sahur set menu, which is different for every day of the week, and have it delivered to their room for only RM45++.

With the “sahur in bed” phenomenon fast catching on with Muslims and non-Muslims, it won’t be long before the hotels come up with a “sahur buffet".
