WASTE not, want not.
Some hotels are doing just that by sending excess food from their food and beverage outlets to the needy in these trying times.
Since the beginning of this month, the Park Royal Hotel in Kuala Lumpur has been daily distributing excess food from its restaurants to the Ti-Ratana Welfare Society.
Park Royal's marketing communications manager Wendy Kok said the move, initiated by its food and beverage director, Sundra Kulendra, was the least the hotel could do to help the needy in these times of escalating food prices.
"The food is always of a high standard. The quality of what we send out is strictly monitored. It is neatly packed in containers provided by the home.
"These are no table scraps. We only donate food that has been prepared for customers but is left over."
Before this arrangement, Kok said some of the excess food was served at the staff cafeteria.
"Our staff are happy to help the needy and, perhaps they can shed a few pounds in the process!"
The Westin Kuala Lumpur is another hotel in the city that send any excess food to charity.
"The excess food from our buffet breakfast is donated to the Grace Community Services daily," said a Westin spokesperson.
