RISING petroleum prices may have overshadowed Malaysia's concern over a water crisis in the future but this is only temporary.

Participating students of the 2008 Water Vision contest organised by Coca-Cola Malaysia in partnership with Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) looked at issues relating to the resource in their states and how they were affecting residents.

Contestants were required to produce a 15-minute presentation based on their findings.

The number of entries doubled and participation came from 10 states compared to four last year.

SMK Jugra, Selangor won first prize. SMK Batu Laut, Selangor came in second followed by SMK Tengku Ampuan Intan in Terengganu.
The winning schools and their supervising teachers will get to spend three days at a nature camp at Forest Research Institute of Malaysia where they will learn about stream and tropical forest ecology. They will also visit a water treatment plant.

In addition to the camp, the top three schools will receive RM1,000, RM700 and RM500 respectively for their Kelab Pencinta Alam.
