JEMPOL: The police will be able to train another 12,000 recruits a year once six new training centres are ready by 2012.
Police director of management Datuk Abd Razak Bokhari said work on some of the centres - two in Kedah and one each in Selangor, Terengganu, Johor and Pahang - had started.
"With these additions, we will have 11 training centres nationwide," he said.
He was speaking after the basic constable training passing out ceremony for women trainees at the Pusat Latihan Polis in Air Hitam near here yesterday.
Abd Razak said the police had adopted a new method of training recruits.
"For constables, we have adopted the 3-3-1 policy, meaning the recruits will spend three months at training centres and three months doing practical training at district or contingent police headquarters before going back to the training centre for one month," he said.
"As for officers, we have adopted the 6-5-1 policy, which means six month in training centres, five months at the district or contingent police headquarters and one month back at the centre.
"We have also adopted a fast lane policy where police personnel who have a tertiary education will be given priority when it comes to promotions, provided they fulfil requirements," Abd Razak added.
