PASIR PUTIH: A 59-year-old man and his 4-year-old grandchild were killed when their Perodua Kancil was involved in a head-on collision with a four-wheel-drive vehicle in Bukit Abal yesterday.

The man's two other grandchildren were seriously injured in the 7.20pm incident near Kampung Panggung Tiga Daerah.

Abdul Salam Abdullah and Balqis Walwiyah Mohd Nazri were killed on the spot while Balqis Walwiyah's siblings Baihaki, 7, and Basirah, 1, were reported to be in critical condition.

The 19-year-old driver of the other vehicle, Koh Chin Shia, his brother, Chin Yun, and an unidentified friend escaped with only minor injuries, as did a motorcyclist who crashed into Abdul Salam's Perodua Kancil.

Abdul Salam, of Kampung Kolam, Pak Badul, was returning home after sending his daughter Rosmini, who is the children's mother, to the Sultan Mizan Teachers Training College in Kuala Besut, Terengganu.
The accident occurred when another car rammed into the rear of Chin Sia's vehicle, causing it to stray into the path of Abdul Salam's car.

Firemen took 20 minutes to extricate the bodies of Abdul Salam and Balqis Walwiyah.
