SEBERANG JAYA: Residents in Taman Siakap here are having sleepless nights as their homes are showing cracks two weeks after construction of a pump house behind their homes started.
To make things more complicated, the residents do not know who to lodge complaints with, as there are no signboards at the construction site.
Resident Zulkifli Ishak, 50, said they had approached the contractors who denied that the ongoing works were the cause of the cracks.
Another resident, Yap Soon Seng, 61, claimed that the cracks appeared after the contractor started the sheet-piling works.
"The contractor should bear responsibility for the cracks and repair the damages," he said.
Seberang Jaya assemblyman Datuk Arif Shah Omar Shah said he had contacted the state Drainage and Irrigation Department and was told that the project was part of the state's plan to address flash floods here.
"Whoever they are, they must attend to the residents' complaints as it involves their safety," he said after visiting the area yesterday.
Arif Shah said contractors should put up notice boards so that residents could approach the right party with their complaints.
