The warning was made by Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, following the Avril Lavigne concert issue.
Puspal, the Central Agency for the Application for Filming and Performance by Foreign Artistes, is responsible for approving applications made by concert organisers.
"Though the concert could have been scrapped as a result of its timing (during the Merdeka celebrations), this week's cabinet meeting decided that it could proceed as planned," said Mohd Shafie at the launch of a photo exhibition yesterday.
He also denied reports that Lavigne's "The Best Damn Tour" concert was cancelled because it was deemed "too sexy" and inappropriate for Merdeka.
"How can we cancel a concert when the application had not been submitted?
"The promoter, Galaxy Group, only submitted its application on Aug 11, which meant it could only be reviewed on the 19th at Puspal's next weekly meeting instead of on Aug 12."
The publicity for the Canadian's concert had begun long before the application was submitted.
Mohd Shafie said religious programmes scheduled on Aug 29, including tahlil pra-yers at the National Mosque as well as activities planned by other faiths would continue.
