THERE will be no additions to Malaysia's Olympic swimming squad after Marellyn Liew (pic), Luisa Los Santos and Foo Jian Beng all failed to make the cut in the Telstra Grand Prix in Sydney, Australia yesterday.

Marellyn, who was closest to the women's 100m butterfly qualifying mark, managed a time of one minute 02.17 secondsas she won the bronze medal.

The qualifying mark for the women's 100m butterfly is 1:01.43s, while Marellyn had already improved her time to 1:01.56s, which is the standing national record she set in the Singapore Open last month.

Luisa, who was also eyeing the Olympics in the same event, clocked 1:04.04s to be placed sixth in the final.

Jian Beng clocked 52.36s to rank 15th overall in the 100m freestyle after he finished last in the B final yesterday, which was won by Mitchell Patterson in a time of 51.20s.
The winner in the main final, Australian Olympic squad swimmer Matt Targett, clocked 49.51s to beat teammate Andy Lauterstein who managed 49.64s.

The Malaysian swimming squad for the Olympics will feature five swimmers -- Daniel Bego, Siow Yi Ting, Leung Chii Lin, Khoo Cai Lin and Lew Yih Wey. The aquatics squad is completed with divers Bryan Nickson Lomas, Leong Mun Yee and Pandelela Rinung.
